The Visual Team was excited to hear that our store would receive a selection of denim, hand-painted by internationally renowned artist Damien Hirst, to promote the WARHOL FACTORY x LEVI'S x DAMIEN HIRST collection, a Holt Renfrew Canadian exclusive.
After selecting a focal location that could accommodate mannequins, museum cubes, the denim collection and the art pieces themselves, we then tested the store's ceiling to see if it would hold the 30 pound (each!) art pieces, which would be individually suspended from cables. We're thankful it passed the test!
To re-create the runway look from the New York collection launch, a large dot-pattern graphic was incorporated. Tuffback, a material comprised of a paper surface on one side and adhesive on the other that can be fixed to a wall surface without causing damage, was painted in primary colours, cut into circles and applied to a pillar, which was central to the installation.
In order to pay proper homage to the Andy Warhol Factory influence, our team sourced a variety of silver Mylar-type materials to use in the museum cubes to evoke the "Factory" vibe. The final gallery-like installation within the Men's Contemporary department showcased these unique, denim-art pieces."
