Helmut Lang

Spring 2008

Home Base: Manhattan

Defining Style: Cool, intellectual minimalism. Noted for clean lines, beautiful materials mixed in unexpected ways and fine tailoring.

The New Kids on the Block: Since 2006, creative directors Michael and Nicole Colovos.

Did You Know: The husband-and-wife design team was the original founder of the L.A.-based design house Habitual.

Spring '08: A playful redefining of the architectural, with an emphasis on construction. Slightly softened silhouettes. Conventional proportions, but with reshaped fits.

Fabrics: Finely woven cottons, supple lambskin and high-tech (aluminum-fortified "techno-crunch").

Colour Palette: Black, white, tan, shades of grey, steely green and cobalt blue.

Highlights: The versatility and flexibility of individual items: jersey pants with narrow leg openings that easily convert to a loose short; shirts with elastic cuffs that allow for easily adjustable sleeve lengths. Thick voluminous hoods are also prevalent.
