With a new season comes new ideas. This spring, clothes are infused with a "back to nature," relaxed flair.
The ease of dressing starts with fabrics that are light and weightless with an organic appeal. As superfine and luxurious as they are comfortable, these lightweight wools, breathable linens, washed cottons, soft leathers and fine-gauge knits take their colour cues from the surf and turf: sand, driftwood, pale shell and washed stone tints mix with cool, watery shades of sea green and ocean blue; and the dark, rich colours of the rainforest contrast with David Hockney–inspired primary brights. This environmentally inspired colour palette brings nature and outdoor pursuits into an urban context.
Tailored clothes communicate a fluid ease in softer, cleaner silhouettes. Although cut to reveal the man, they are never restricting.
For non-boardroom days, a quiet confidence is expressed by the ease of a more generously cut, barely constructed jacket and a breezy short-sleeved shirt combined with a drawstring pant or tailored short.
When you are miles away from your desk and your laptop, think freedom and flight in colourful board shorts, printed shirts, a straw Trilby, bold sunglass frames and a patterned scarf.
This season's confident spirit allows for flexibility of style. A man can adopt the easygoing attitude of a surfer and nomadic traveller one day, the toughness of a Steve McQueen in motocross leathers on another, then sport Cary Grant elegance the next. As we all know, there is nothing that exudes more confidence and ease than a man comfortable in his own skin.
